Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is stepping out of the shadows and into the kitchen with the release of her new cookbook, "Elvira's Cookbook from Hell." The book, available as of September 30th, 2025, offers a unique twist on traditional Halloween fare, featuring whimsical recipes and entertaining tips that cater to the "goth crowd."
Unlike many Halloween-themed cookbooks geared towards children, Peterson's offering is designed for adult partygoers, with ideas like a "romantic graveside picnic" and other goth-inspired delights. Recipes such as "Spook-Ghetti and Eyeballs," "Guaca-Morbid," and "Sausage Guts" promise to add a delightfully spooky touch to any gathering.
However, despite the book's strong Elvira branding, Peterson, now 73 years old, has largely retired the iconic character's look. She explains that she has "kind of cut it off," as she doesn't want to "run her into the ground" by continuing to dress up as Elvira well into her later years. Peterson notes that "nobody wants to see an 80-year-old Elvira," preferring to leave the character at the "top of her game."
