Elton John: Sobriety Was My Greatest Achievement

Sir Elton John, celebrated for his extensive career and numerous awards, identifies his sobriety in 1990 as his most significant achievement. He reflected that his life has been greatly enhanced by overcoming his past addictions, which he felt nearly cost him everything. This year, he and his husband of 33 years, David Furnish, launched Elton John Zero Blanc de Blancs, a 0% alcohol sparkling wine. The couple, who are both teetotal, created the drink to enhance their entertaining experiences.

Despite concluding his extensive Farewell Yellow Brick Road global tour in 2023, Elton John remains active with select performances. He highlighted headlining Rock in Rio in September as a major, unreal experience and one of his largest shows to date. He also spoke of the joy he finds in music and in championing new artists, citing an inspiring evening at the Ivor Novello Awards in May. He finds energy in connecting with fellow musicians and discovering emerging talent.

At home, Elton John enjoys hosting loved ones and has developed an interest in table settings, inspired by his friend Gianni Versace. The availability of his new alcohol-free wine has provided opportunities to showcase his glassware. He finds evenings at home with good conversation to be perfection after decades of touring. Recently, he hosted tennis player Jack Draper and his family for Sunday lunch, a gesture appreciated by his sons who are keen tennis fans.
