The lawsuit, filed in September 2025, accuses DeGeneres of negligence after she allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with the plaintiff's vehicle in Santa Barbara County. The accuser claims she sustained injuries and is seeking unspecified damages. This matter is slated for a court hearing on April 30.

DeGeneres' response detailed that the documents were left with a receptionist at Neuman + Associates, a firm with ties to her business operations, and not directly to her. Her team argues this method of service is invalid and that the employee who received the documents would not have reliably passed them to her. This legal dispute follows previous controversies surrounding DeGeneres' talk show.
