Ellen Burstyn, 93, Receives Venice Golden Lion Despite Fall

At 93, veteran actress Ellen Burstyn was celebrated with the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival. Burstyn, who recently experienced a fall but is recovering, attended the ceremony accompanied by a walker. She received a prolonged standing ovation from the audience.

Burstyn expressed deep gratitude, stating the Venice award ranks among her highest honors, surpassing even her Oscar, Tony, and Emmy wins. She reflected on her extensive seven-decade career, noting that at her age, such a tribute offers a valuable opportunity to look back on accomplishments and lessons learned.

Her co-stars from "Place to Be," including Taika Waititi and Pamela Anderson, were present to support her. The film festival also screened Gyllenhaal's short film "Flesh Impact," which is dedicated to Marilyn Monroe on her 100th birthday, featuring Burstyn in a role portraying a lesser-seen side of Monroe.

During a press conference, Burstyn recalled fleeting encounters with Hollywood icons like Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando. She also shared career advice from Bette Davis, who stressed the paramount importance of an artist's work above all else.
