Eken Babu: Foodie Detective Solves Darjeeling Mystery

Detective Eken Babu, known for his eccentric charm and love for food, brings a unique flavor to Bengal's detective fiction. Created by Indian American author Sujan Dasgupta, Eken solves crimes with his companions, physics professor Bapi and chemistry researcher Promotho.

Eken Babu gained significant popularity through a nine-season web series adaptation on Hoichoi, which led to three feature films and substantial box-office success. His adventures are characterized by a blend of lighthearted whodunits, culinary exploration, and his distinctive, goofy persona.

The film 'The Eken' is set in Darjeeling, where Eken's vacation is interrupted by a case involving a stolen antique statue, a precious photograph, and a murder. Eken adeptly links these incidents, uncovering a complex web of deceit and family secrets.

Another installment, 'The Eken: Rhuddadwas Rajasthan,' transports Eken to Jaisalmer to investigate the theft of antique statues. The narrative unfolds with twists, chases, and Eken's characteristic wit and observational prowess.

'The Eken: Benaras e Bhibishika' sees Eken in Banaras, unraveling a sinister conspiracy during Masaan Holi, involving stolen antiques and a precious pendant, while facing a mastermind of disguises. This installment is notably darker than its predecessors.

Anirban Chakrabarty's portrayal of Eken is central to the franchise's appeal, balancing his bumbling, food-obsessed nature with sharp deductive reasoning. The supporting cast, including Suhotra Mukhopadhyay and Somak Ghosh as Bapi and Promotho respectively, provide effective foils to Eken's eccentricities. The films are noted for their peppy music and serve as travelogues, showcasing the culture and ambiance of different cities.

A fourth film, 'The Eken: Keralay Kurukshetra,' is slated for release soon, continuing the popular franchise.
