Hughes, a celebrated quiz show contestant who also won Mastermind and Brain of Britain, left a substantial sum to charitable causes. He bequeathed £20,000 to Cancer Research UK, £10,000 to the British Red Cross, and £10,000 each to the Samaritans and Medecins Sans Frontieres, totaling £40,000.
The remaining £145,385 of his estate was left to his cousin, Thelma Symons. Hughes also expressed his wish to be cremated in his will. His passing was mourned by the Eggheads family, who remembered him for his brilliant answers and many laughs over his two decades on the show.
