The European Film Academy has established its inaugural group of chapter principals, assigning leaders to eight distinct filmmaking disciplines. This strategic expansion underscores the Academy's dedication to nurturing and promoting the artistic and technical crafts essential to European cinema.
The appointed chapter principals, chosen for their exceptional artistic contributions and international standing, will serve as ambassadors for their respective fields. Their mission involves cultivating stronger member connections, elevating the profile of their crafts, and fostering the continued growth and unity of the European film community.
Key figures include cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, known for his work on Nolan films, and composer Zbigniew Preisner, famed for his collaborations with Krzysztof Kieślowski. Costume designer Pascaline Chavanne, editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis, makeup artist Waldemar Pokromski, production designer Antxón Gómez Santander, and sound designer Tarn Willers also join, each bringing a wealth of experience and accolades from prominent European and international productions.
Matthijs Wouter Knol, CEO and Academy Director, highlighted that this step follows the introduction of member chapters last year. He emphasized the Academy's goal to provide greater recognition to the numerous disciplines that contribute to European films annually, thereby strengthening member community and encouraging cross-European dialogue and collaboration.
