Norton: Fight Club Premiere Was Booed

Edward Norton recently shared insights into the challenging initial reception of the 1999 film "Fight Club."

Norton recalled that the movie, directed by David Fincher, had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, a decision he and Brad Pitt felt was a poor fit. The screening was met with boos, a stark contrast to the festival's usual acclaim.

Despite the negative reaction at the festival and a disappointing box office performance—grossing $37 million domestically against a $60-70 million budget—both Norton and Pitt recognized the film's potential. Pitt famously told Norton after the premiere, "I think that's the best movie I'm ever gonna be in."

"Fight Club" has since evolved into a cultural classic, celebrated for its provocative themes and memorable twist ending. The film also featured Helena Bonham Carter, Meat Loaf, and Jared Leto in significant roles.
