On March 1, 2025, the latest adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' iconic novel 'The Count of Monte Cristo' will premiere on the PBS app and PBS Masterpiece on Prime Video. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Bille August, the series stars Sam Claflin as Edmond Dantès, a young sailor who was falsely accused of treason and imprisoned without trial in the Château d'If, a grim island fortress off the coast of Marseille, France.
After many years of captivity, Dantès finally escapes and discovers a hidden treasure, making him one of the wealthiest men in the world. Assuming the identity of the Count of Monte Cristo, he sets out to take revenge on those who wrongly accused him. The series also features Jeremy Irons as Abbé Faria, a fellow prisoner who shares the whereabouts of the treasure with Dantès.
Following the streaming premiere, a weekly broadcast of the series will begin on March 22 at 10/9c. The Count of Monte Cristo is produced by Palomar and DEMD Productions, two Mediawan companies, and distributed worldwide by MediawanRights in cooperation with CAA (for North America) and with the participation of Entourage Ventures.
