Summary
- Edge of Tomorrow sequel actively in development at Warner Bros.
- Filming for the sequel potentially begins this fall.
- Cruise and Blunt are expected to reprise their roles.

The science-fiction film 'Edge of Tomorrow,' starring Tom Cruise, is reportedly advancing towards production, more than a decade after its initial release. Industry sources indicate that Warner Bros. is actively developing a sequel.
Pre-production is allegedly set to begin as early as fall 2026, potentially positioning this as Cruise's next major project before 'Top Gun 3.' This aligns with earlier reports from October 2025 that suggested the franchise's continuation was progressing.
The shift in focus may stem from the postponement of director Doug Liman's film 'Deeper,' which faced alleged financing issues, causing its planned August 2026 shoot to be rescheduled. Liman and Cruise are now prioritizing the 'Edge of Tomorrow' sequel.
Director Liman had previously cited Cruise's demanding schedule, including commitments to 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Top Gun: Maverick,' as a significant hurdle in developing the sequel. The film is now eyeing a late 2026 production start.
Both Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are anticipated to return to their roles. Blunt, who has been occupied with promotional activities and filming for the 'A Quiet Place' franchise, confirmed in August 2023 that a script was complete and she remained committed. Despite 'Edge of Tomorrow's' modest $375 million global gross against its $175 million budget in 2014, it has since cultivated a strong cult following through home media and streaming.
