On September 23rd, 2022, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and his band the Earthlings kicked off the Ohana Music Festival in Dana Point, California. This marked the first time in 2 years that Vedder and his bandmates—guitarists Andrew Watt, Josh Klinghoffer and Glen Hansard; Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and bassist Chris Chaney—had performed together.
To celebrate the occasion, the group delivered a set filled with both Earthling and Pearl Jam songs, as well as several high-profile cover tunes. They opened with a rendition of Devo's "Gut Feeling" before launching into the Pearl Jam classic "Corduroy." Later in the set, the band jammed out the instrumental intro to Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains the Same" before transitioning into Pearl Jam's "Rearviewmirror."
Vedder also paid tribute to a number of other musical acts, shouting out Garbage's Shirley Manson, Madrid's Hinds, Jessica Dobson from Deep Sea Diver, Akira Galaxy, and Kim Deal, as well as Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O, who was in attendance. The group closed out their performance with a cover of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World," featuring a bevy of special guests.
The Ohana Music Festival continues through the weekend, with Hozier headlining tonight and Green Day closing out the event on Sunday.
