Netflix is set to premiere its limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck's 1952 novel, East of Eden, on October 1. This modern interpretation centers on the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, with a particular focus on the complex antihero Cathy Ames, portrayed by Florence Pugh.
Pugh also serves as an executive producer on the series. Zoe Kazan penned the screenplay for this adaptation, which is a new take on the classic story. Her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed a film version of the novel in 1955.
The series was filmed across various locations in New Zealand. The ensemble cast includes Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, Ciarán Hinds, and Christopher Abbott, among others. Kazan is co-showrunner with Jeb Stuart.
