Mark and Jay Duplass, alongside Mel Elsyn, have joined the short comedy film 'Exam' as executive producers under their Duplass Brothers' Productions banner. The film is the second comedic short from Jan Naszewski, founder of New Europe Film Sales. He co-wrote the screenplay with comedian Agnieszka Matan, who also stars in the film.
The narrative follows a pair of sensitive millennials tasked with acting as a model couple during a therapist's board examination. The presence of a therapist, an international committee, an interpreter, and the spouses' hidden frustrations creates comedic tension. Mark Duplass expressed hope for a continued collaboration between Duplass Brothers and New Europe.
'Exam' has screened at various festivals, including Encounters FF and Chicago IFF, and secured audience awards at Adelaide and Secidicorto FF in Italy. The film is currently undertaking festival rounds and special screenings in Los Angeles, following paid screenings in L.A. and Warsaw during the summer. Naszewski highlighted the inspirational influence of the Duplass Brothers on Polish comedians, viewing their involvement as a significant recognition.
The production involved Haka Films, New Europe Productions, Kidam, and Condor Production, with support from CNC.
