Showrunner Reveals Ambitious 'Boyhood'-Style Plans for Dunk & Egg Series
23 Feb
Summary
- Dunk accepts his role in Prince Baelor's death and his potential.
- Maekar fears his own past and tries to control Egg's future.
- Showrunner plans a 'Boyhood'-style series, releasing new installments every decade.

The Season 1 finale of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" concluded with Dunk's profound personal growth, as he accepted his role in Prince Baelor's sacrificial death. This marks a significant arc for the hedge knight, moving from self-doubt to embracing his destiny.
Concurrently, King Maekar faced the consequences of his actions, having delivered the fatal blow to his brother Baelor. Burdened by his past and the fear of repeating his sons' failures, Maekar attempted to steer Egg's future, ultimately failing to prevent Dunk from taking the young Targaryen on the road.
Showrunner Ira Parker outlined an ambitious vision for the series, likening it to Richard Linklater's "Boyhood." The plan involves producing installments every ten years to chronicle Dunk and Egg's lives from boyhood through kingship, charting their entire journey.
However, Parker acknowledged the inherent uncertainty of such a long-term project. While expressing a strong desire to see the saga through, he also noted the possibility of the series concluding after only two or three installments, depending on various factors.
