Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three is set to make substantial changes from Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah. The final trailer highlights a vastly different trajectory for Chani, portrayed by Zendaya, and her children, Leto II and Ghanima. Unlike the novel, Chani is now estranged from Paul and raising the twins, who are depicted as teenagers actively opposing their father.
This sequel diverges from the source material by featuring Leto II and Ghanima much earlier and in a more adversarial role. In Herbert's work, these characters are central to the third novel, Children of Dune, and are initially positioned as Paul's successors. Dune: Part Three, however, presents them as antagonists to Paul's regime.
The trailer also reveals Chani's involvement in a plot against Paul, orchestrated by his enemies including Princess Irulan and a Tleilaxu face dancer named Scytale. A key element of this scheme involves Chani and her Fremen loyalists attempting to steal a sandworm, presumably to disrupt Paul's stranglehold on the spice trade and his control of the galaxy.
These significant narrative shifts suggest that Dune: Part Three will offer a unique interpretation of the Dune saga, focusing on the internal conflicts and unexpected alliances within its vast universe.
