Jeethu Joseph, the director behind the critically acclaimed Malayalam thriller 'Drishyam,' has confessed to a writing mistake in the original film. Released in 2013, 'Drishyam' became a historic blockbuster, changing the landscape of Malayalam cinema. Joseph revealed in a recent interview that the film's core idea stemmed from a real-life disagreement between two families, involving a boy and a girl, which escalated into a police case.
He initially conceived the plot around the moral ambiguity of the situation, pondering how audiences would react to characters who were both right and wrong. Joseph wondered if viewers' sympathies would swing between the opposing families. However, after the film's release, he realized his assumption was incorrect. Instead of a divided audience, 'Drishyam' saw overwhelming support for Georgekutty and his family, a result Joseph did not anticipate.
The director also defended the character of Geetha Prabhakar, the grieving mother searching for her son. He highlighted her perspective as a mother desperate for the truth, unaware of her son's wrongdoing and feeling manipulated by Georgekutty's actions. 'Drishyam 3' is now in production and is scheduled for release on May 21.
