Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined is set to revitalize the beloved PlayStation 1 JRPG with a stunning new visual interpretation. This second remake of the lengthy game introduces a sharp, expressive 3D art style, drawing inspiration from Akira Toriyama's distinctive designs to evoke an animated film feel. The developers are also refining the game's narrative flow, cutting extraneous subplots to deliver a more direct and engaging experience for modern players.
Combat receives a significant overhaul with the introduction of the "Moonlighting" system. This allows each party member to equip two vocations concurrently, a departure from the original's single-vocation limit and level-resetting class changes. This change significantly streamlines gameplay by reducing grinding and adds considerable depth and variety to character customization and battle strategy.
The remake aims to maintain the original's ambitious scope while honing its presentation and pacing. Producer Takeshi Ichikawa expressed a desire to satisfy long-time fans while welcoming newcomers with a reimagined experience. Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined is scheduled for release on February 5, 2026, across multiple platforms, promising an updated adventure for a new generation.
