She believed such an extreme action would alienate the audience permanently from her character, who was fundamentally a mother.
She proposed alternative, less extreme transgressions that still fit Abby's established persona. In the end, the Knots Landing creative team heeded Mills's concerns. The twins' disappearance was attributed to a crooked doctor, Dr. Wayne, rather than Abby.
