Langley, currently the chairman of Universal Pictures, is a notable figure as the first British woman to lead a major Hollywood studio. Her career includes championing commercially successful and critically acclaimed films such as 'Oppenheimer,' 'Get Out,' and major franchises including 'Fast & Furious' and 'Despicable Me.'
Born and raised on the Isle of Wight in the UK, Langley was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 2020 for her significant contributions to film and entertainment. She expressed her honor at receiving the fellowship, highlighting the privilege of being recognized by her home country and industry peers.
BAFTA Chair Sara Putt commended Langley's transformative studio leadership and her impactful creative relationships. Previous recipients of the Academy Fellowship include distinguished figures like Helen Mirren, Sidney Poitier, and Ridley Scott, with Warwick Davis receiving the honor in the previous year.
