Dominican Filmmaker Cabral Ventures into Dark Comedy with "Gut Feelings"

In a significant career move, acclaimed Dominican filmmaker José María Cabral is set to direct his first dark comedy, "Gut Feelings," which is scheduled to begin shooting on October 23rd at Lantica Studios in the Dominican Republic.

Cabral, who has represented his country three times at the Oscars with films like "Checkmate," "Woodpeckers," and "The Projectionist," is excited to venture into a new genre, describing it as a chance to "confront serious themes through absurdity and humor." The story follows a wealthy household consumed by the sole objective of keeping their young daughter, Isabella, alive. Her mother, Verónica, clings to control, while her father, Raúl, a former biotechnologist, desperately tries homemade cures.

Joining Cabral on this project is Spanish actor Fele Martínez, known for his roles in acclaimed Spanish films like "Thesis" and "Open Your Eyes." Martínez will be leading a cast that also includes Dominican talents Cindy Galán, Lizbeth Santos, Isabel Spencer, and Frank Perozo.

Lantica Studios, the leading provider of studio and production services in the Caribbean and Latin America, is backing the production. The studio has previously supported Cabral's work, as well as other notable films like "Hotel Coppelia" and "Parsley," which was a Miami Film Festival audience awardee.

With its mix of dark comedy and deeply human themes, "Gut Feelings" is poised to be a bold and original vision that resonates internationally, according to Cabral and Lantica Studios' production VP, Rafael Elías Muñoz.
