In the same 2019 interview, Parton spoke about her father's inability to read and write, which fueled her passion for children's literacy. She expressed pride in her work with "Dolly Parton's Imagination Library."

Parton's nephew announced her passing, sharing her wish to rest comfortably. The family requested privacy for a small service and encouraged donations to the Imagination Library in lieu of flowers.
