Dolly Parton's Final Interview: Dreams Still Alive

Country music legend Dolly Parton passed away peacefully in Nashville at the age of 80 on Tuesday, August 25, following a brief battle with cancer. Just four days prior, in an interview published on August 21, Parton shared her characteristic optimism about future projects, stating she was "still working" despite health concerns.

Parton had candidly discussed health issues in the months leading up to her death, which had previously forced her to cancel appearances and a planned Las Vegas residency. She explained that some of these issues were neglected while she cared for her husband, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025. Despite this difficult period, she expressed no intention of retiring.

Even in her final days, Parton was actively planning new ventures. These included work on the Life of Many Colors museum, her SongTeller Hotel, and a Broadway musical. She also expressed excitement about her Cup of Ambition Coffee collaboration, a concept nearly four decades in the making. While traditional touring was behind her, she planned special performances, even humorously considering avatar-based shows.

Her personal life was marked by the passing of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025, after nearly six decades of marriage. Parton acknowledged the profound adjustment of living without him. Her dedication to caring for him clearly took precedence over her own well-being, as indicated in her final interview. Her representatives confirmed her death, noting a "brief battle with cancer" and remembering her "wit, warmth and kindness."
