Dolly Parton's Broadway Musical Set for 2027 Premiere

Dolly Parton is set to celebrate her 81st birthday in 2027 with the grand premiere of her Broadway musical, "Dolly: A True Original Musical." The show is slated to open at New York City's St. James Theater on January 19, 2027, with previews beginning December 7, 2026.

This production brings together some of Parton's most famous songs, including "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You," alongside several new original compositions created specifically for the musical.

"Dolly" previously had a run at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville. Following positive fan reception, Parton and her team continued refining the musical, with Parton recently confirming extensive writing and reworking efforts.

Maria Schlatter has collaborated with Parton on the musical's book, and nine-time Tony nominee Bartlett Sher is directing. The cast for the Broadway production is yet to be announced.

Despite recent health challenges that led to some slowdown and canceled dates, Parton has remained engaged with creative projects, including this musical and her 2023 album "Rockstar." She has been making public appearances, such as at the opening of her truck stop in Tennessee.
