The nonfiction streaming platform Documentary+ has secured global rights to the culinary documentary "Still Single." This film delves into the world of Masaki Saito, a 36-year-old sushi chef renowned for his Michelin two-starred restaurant in Toronto. The documentary is set to premiere on Documentary+ on April 23, marking it as a Documentary+ Original.
Directed by Jamal Burger and Jukan Tateisi, the feature made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. It explores Saito's unconventional methods, including aging fish to perfection, and his daring lifestyle, contrasting his high-end Omakase approach with his humble roots in rural Japan.
Documentary+ recently became part of acTVe, a streaming television operator. CEO Geoff Clark expressed enthusiasm for "Still Single," calling it beautifully crafted and emotionally honest. This acquisition underscores the platform's commitment to championing compelling nonfiction storytelling from around the world.
Burger and Tateisi, both filmmakers and artists, expressed their excitement about sharing their feature directorial debut on a platform that aligns with their values. The deal was negotiated by Documentary+'s Geoff Clark and Nate Bolotin from XYZ Films.
