Djimon Hounsou, a two-time Oscar nominee, has established Fanaticus Media Group (FMG). This new production company is an evolution of his prior venture, Fanaticus Entertainment. FMG will be spearheaded by Hounsou's associate, Gemma Rocha, who will oversee its strategic and creative development.
Fanaticus Media Group intends to operate as both a production house and an "ecosystem builder." Their ambitious goals include fostering international co-productions, developing distribution channels for diaspora-focused content, and establishing long-term infrastructure within Africa and its global communities.
The company's inaugural feature film, "Calabash," recently had a screening in Berlin as part of the AfroBerlin program. Directed by Omar S. Kamara, the film is described as a comedy exploring the dynamics of a wedding that brings two families with different traditions together.
This new chapter for Fanaticus Media Group was officially introduced during Hounsou's appearance as a guest speaker at the AfroBerlin conference. The screening of "Calabash" at the festival aligns with AfroBerlin's mission to showcase African stories and spark global conversations.
