17 Oct
Summary
- Beloved home renovation series DIY SOS will be rested next year.
- A new spin-off, DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life, will air in its place.
- The decision aligns with the BBC's £500m savings drive.
The BBC has announced that the popular home renovation program, DIY SOS, will be rested in 2027. This pause is part of the corporation's significant three-year savings plan, aiming to cut £500m. Rather than being axed, the show will be replaced by a new spin-off.
The new series, tentatively titled DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life, will be produced by South Shore. It aims to revisit and expand upon the show's most impactful past projects in a more budget-friendly manner. DIY SOS has a notable history, including building veteran housing with Prince William and Prince Harry in 2015 and supporting Grenfell Tower disaster survivors in 2018.
Presented by Nick Knowles since its inception in 1999, DIY SOS has undergone a transformation from small-scale renovations to tackling complex, ambitious projects. The program recently featured an episode that helped a family by overhauling their home for their severely disabled son to receive treatment, a transformation described as a "miracle."
