In a recent recollection, producer Pahlaj Nihalani shared details about a casting change for the 1993 film 'Aankhen.' Nihalani stated that Divya Bharti, Pooja Bhatt, and Juhi Chawla were initially considered for the movie, which was to star Govinda.
The primary issue arose when Divya Bharti was informed she would be paired opposite Chunky Pandey, while Ritu Shivpuri was slated to star with Govinda. Nihalani recounted that upon hearing this, Bharti expressed her strong objections.
Nihalani further claimed that Divya Bharti summoned him and expressed her displeasure, reportedly stating, 'I've heard that I'm opposite Chunky?' After confirming the casting, she refused to continue with the film. This incident occurred before shooting commenced.
Bharti had approached Nihalani for the role through a secretary. Nihalani mentioned his initial impression of her physique, advising her to lose weight. Bharti began shooting only five days before the first schedule concluded. Following her exit, Raageshwari was cast in the role.
'Aankhen,' directed by David Dhawan, proved to be a successful comedy for Govinda.
