Walt Disney Animation Studios is set to release an original animated feature, "Hexed," in theaters on November 25, 2026. This film marks Disney's strategic move to bring an original animated story to its Thanksgiving release slot. Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones have been announced as the lead voice actors, portraying a mother-daughter relationship with magical elements.
The narrative follows Billie, voiced by Steinfeld, a teenager who discovers her witch heritage and is thrust into a magical realm alongside her mother, played by Jones. Early details reveal a modern fantasy setting with talking magical artifacts, hinting at a whimsical and adventurous tone.
"Hexed" arrives as Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar aim to revitalize their theatrical performance. Following mixed results from recent original animated features like "Strange World" and "Wish," this new project is expected to perform better at the box office, potentially surpassing "Wish's" $255 million global total.
The film is co-directed by Jose Trinidad, marking their feature directorial debut, and Jason Hand, who previously worked on "Moana 2." This release is part of Disney's ongoing commitment to original animation, alongside anticipated sequels like "Frozen 3" and "Frozen 4."
