A live-action pilot for "The Last Kids on Earth" has been ordered by Disney+. The series will be written, executive produced, and showrun by Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux, known for their work on "The Vampire Diaries" and "Gotham Knights." Kevin Tancharoen, acclaimed for his work on "The Book of Boba Fett," is set to direct and executive produce the pilot episode.
The pilot will adapt the popular New York Times bestselling book series by Max Brallier. It follows a diverse group of teenagers, led by 13-year-old Jack Sullivan, as they unite to protect their quiet hometown from an invasion of monsters. This project builds on the success of Netflix's animated adaptation, which concluded its three-season run in 2019.
Several other producers are attached to the live-action adaptation, including Max Brallier, Hillary Zwick Turner, Jennifer Twiner McCarron, and Matt Hornburg. This move by Disney+ also follows their recent announcement of a new "Aquamarine" TV pilot, indicating a continued focus on adapting popular young adult properties.
