Hulu App Shutting Down? Disney Consolidates Streaming

Disney is reportedly planning to decommission Hulu's standalone application, a move that contradicts earlier statements. An internal memo obtained by Business Insider outlines Disney's strategy to consolidate Hulu's content and features into the Disney+ platform. This migration is projected to be finalized by the end of 2026.

Following the user transition, the Hulu tech stack and app will be retired. Employees have noted a lack of recent development for Hulu features, suggesting a shift in focus. While Disney previously stated no immediate plans to end the standalone app, this new information suggests a significant change is coming.

Despite the potential closure of the Hulu app, Disney may continue to offer separate subscription options alongside bundle packages. This approach aims to retain various subscriber segments and maximize revenue opportunities. Hulu enthusiasts may not necessarily be forced to adopt a Disney+ exclusive subscription.
