Disney+ Ditches 'Holes' TV Adaptation

Disney+ will not be moving forward with its television adaptation of Louis Sachar's beloved 1998 novel, "Holes." The streaming service had previously ordered a pilot for the series earlier this year.

The planned adaptation was a departure from the original material, featuring a gender-bent storyline that centered on a teenage girl named Hayley, portrayed by Shay Rudolph. This reimagining would have shifted the focus from the novel's original male protagonist.

The project involved a notable creative team, with Alina Mankin attached as writer and Liz Phang as showrunner. The pilot was directed by Jac Schaeffer and executive produced by Mankin, Phang, and Drew Goddard, among others. Walden Media, which produced the original film, was involved in producing the pilot.
