Summary
- Disney+ Canada commissions eight-part comedy and true crime series.
- Two new Canadian original series will debut on Disney+.
- This marks Disney+'s first investment in Canadian original content.

Disney+ has officially entered the Canadian original content landscape by greenlighting its first two Canadian productions. The streamer will debut an eight-part comedy series, "Knighted," and a true crime docuseries, "I'm Not Coming Back." This marks a significant expansion for Disney+ in Canada, which launched in 2019 but had not previously commissioned local productions.
"Knighted" is a comedy developed by Bruce McCulloch, Jackson Rowe, and Mike Mildon, following a missing person's case that uncovers dark secrets within a medieval dinner theatre. "I'm Not Coming Back" is produced by Joe Tuck and directed by Brent Hodge, chronicling the 2019 manhunt for two fugitives that became one of Canada's largest-scale pursuits.
Paige Murray, Director of Development for Disney+ Canada, stated that these series showcase Canada's "incredible range of talent" and demonstrate a "deep commitment to local content." The decision to invest in Canadian originals comes after years of discussion within the local production community and follows a recent government policy adjustment regarding global streamers' spending on Canadian content.
