Prominent television directors have publicly declared their refusal to participate in HBO's forthcoming Harry Potter series, citing concerns over J.K. Rowling's widely publicized views on transgender issues.

Director Ally Pankiw, known for her work on "Black Mirror" and "The Great," shared a private text conversation demonstrating her firm rejection of an offer to direct for the Wizarding World adaptation. She captioned her post, "It simply is this easy to say no to funding transphobia!" Fellow director Kate Herron, who helmed episodes of "Loki," echoed Pankiw's sentiments, revealing she had been approached twice and reiterated her consistent refusal.

J.K. Rowling has been a subject of controversy for her outspoken comments on the transgender community. While she has stated her respect for transgender individuals, her repeated alignment with the TERF movement and her public stances have drawn significant criticism. These comments have led prominent figures associated with the original Harry Potter films, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, to publicly distance themselves from Rowling's views and affirm their support for the trans community.

Further casting news for the series includes Nicholas Hoult's confirmation as Gilderoy Lockhart for the second season.
