Director Defends 'Thamma's' Controversial Item Numbers, Teases SRK Cameo

In November 2025, the horror comedy film 'Thamma' from Dinesh Vijan's cinematic universe has been performing decently at the Indian box office, nearing a collection of ₹130 crore. The film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has received mixed reviews, with many critics focusing on the inclusion of three item numbers.

In a recent interview, director Aditya Sarpotdar defended the decision to incorporate these dance sequences, stating that the "glitz, glamour, and madness" was necessary to capture the essence of the vampire-themed story. He pointed out that the same audience had previously embraced the hit song 'Aaj Ki Raat' from his earlier film 'Munjya', suggesting that the criticism stems from the perceived overuse of item numbers in the genre.

Sarpotdar also addressed the speculation surrounding the possible inclusion of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the expanding horror comedy universe. He expressed excitement at the prospect, stating that Khan's involvement could lead to "something crazier, bigger, and more scaled up" that the audience has never seen before. The director envisions Khan playing a heroic role akin to Captain America or Iron Man, rather than a traditional villain.
