The much-anticipated film 'Satluj', starring Diljit Dosanjh and formerly known as 'Panjab 95', has now been released directly on ZEE5 as of July 3, 2026. Directed by Honey Trehan, the movie highlights the journey of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, an individual who shed light on mass disappearances and extra-judicial killings in Punjab during the militancy period.
The film experienced a protracted release journey, encountering significant hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which initially demanded 127 cuts. These challenges led to further delays after its planned theatrical release on February 7 last year. The filmmakers ultimately retitled the movie to 'Satluj' following suggestions from the CBFC.
Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP Movies produced 'Satluj', which was initially set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023. However, Indian authorities intervened, leading to its withdrawal. The streaming release on ZEE5 is seen as a victory for its powerful storytelling about courage and resilience.
