Netflix Clashes with Diddy Over 'Illegal' Doc

Netflix has responded to accusations that its docuseries "Sean Combs: The Reckoning" is "illegal." A spokesperson for the streaming service affirmed that the footage used in the project was legally obtained and denied any improper connection to Sean Combs. The statement emphasized that the documentary is not a "hit piece" and that executive producer Curtis Jackson, also known as 50 Cent, does not hold creative control.

The assertion of illegality came from a representative for Sean "Diddy" Combs, who alleged that Netflix misappropriated footage amassed by Combs over decades. This representative also criticized the involvement of 50 Cent, citing a long-standing public feud and labeling him a "longtime adversary." A cease and desist letter was reportedly issued to Netflix.

The director of "The Reckoning," Alexandria Stapleton, previously stated that the footage was acquired legally and that Combs himself often films extensively. The docuseries explores Combs's professional journey, including his co-founding of Bad Boy Records and his alleged plans to move $200 million prior to his September 2024 arrest on multiple charges, to which he pleaded not guilty.
