Didcot is preparing to celebrate its first-ever Pride festival this coming Saturday. The event will take place at the Northbourne Community Centre, offering two distinct experiences for attendees. The afternoon will feature a family-friendly segment from 12:00 to 16:00 BST, including food, drinks, and entertainment, notably a tribute to Dolly Parton and an appearance by the Mayor.
Following the daytime activities, an adult-only ticketed event will commence at 18:00. This evening celebration is slated to include a diverse range of performances such as cabaret, comedy, and drag shows. Organisers have highlighted the significance of this inaugural event, aiming to make a strong statement of visibility and acceptance within the community.
Drag artist Scarlett Von Kok, a producer for Didcot Pride, emphasized the dual nature of the event, describing it as "a bit of fun, all whilst spreading the message that Pride is a protest." The evening show will also feature tribute acts for Freddie Mercury and ABBA, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. This event arrives two years after an initial attempt at a Didcot Pride festival was cancelled.
