10 Jun
Summary
- DGA and studios reach a tentative deal on a new four-year contract.
- The current contract agreement was set to expire on June 30.
- Key issues included job creation and generative AI regulation.

A tentative four-year contract has been reached between the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Entertainment Producers (AMPTP). This breakthrough in negotiations occurred less than a month after talks began. The current agreement was scheduled to expire on June 30, and this new pact aims to provide labor stability.
The DGA's primary focus during negotiations was to improve job opportunities for its members, citing a significant dip in employment in television and film in 2024. Additionally, the union aimed to strengthen its health plan by seeking increased employer contributions.
Generative artificial intelligence was another critical point of discussion. The DGA sought greater influence over the implementation of AI tools and regulations concerning how members' work might be transformed by these technologies. Studios, meanwhile, favored a longer contract term to ensure business planning stability.
Following tentative approval, the agreement will be presented to the DGA's national board. If endorsed, the full details will be released to the DGA's approximately 19,500 members for a ratification vote.
