29 Sep, 2025
Summary
- DGA promotes Mitchell Schwenz to Executive in Charge of Communications
- Schwenz to oversee DGA's communications strategy, including website and social media
- Move signals DGA's focus on communications ahead of negotiations with AMPTP

In a significant move, the Directors Guild of America (DGA) has elevated Mitchell Schwenz to the position of Executive in Charge of Communications. Effective as of July 2024, Schwenz's new role will see him leading the guild's communications strategy, including oversight of the DGA Monthly publication, the DGA website, and the organization's social media channels.
The promotion of Schwenz, who previously served as the DGA's public relations and media specialist, underscores the guild's focus on strengthening its communications capabilities. This shift comes at a critical juncture, as the DGA prepares to enter another bargaining cycle with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
According to DGA National Executive Director Russell Hollander, the membership has already benefited from Schwenz's "innovative thinking" in enhancing the guild's public relations efforts. Hollander emphasized that effective communication has become increasingly important, and the DGA looks forward to continuing to grow its communications under Schwenz's leadership.
Prior to joining the DGA, Schwenz held senior roles at Precision Strategies, a communications firm co-founded by former Obama administration officials. He has extensive experience in labor relations, having worked with organizations like the SAG-AFTRA and the NBA Players Association on their communications strategies.
