Real Andy Sachs: Author Now Lives on a Bahamas Boat

Lauren Weisberger, the author whose debut novel "The Devil Wears Prada" was inspired by her tenure as an assistant at Vogue, now resides on a boat in the Bahamas with her family. This significant life change occurred after they sold their Connecticut home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Weisberger, who previously worked for "a year of being yelled at" as an assistant, has since authored seven more books, including a sequel to her famous novel. She married playwright Mike Cohen in 2008, and they have two children together.

The author has reflected on her past experiences, noting a sense of recognition with her protagonist Andy Sachs, akin to looking at an old photograph. If writing the novel today, she expressed a desire to approach it with greater empathy for both Andy and her demanding boss.

Currently, Weisberger is embracing a life at sea, spending nearly 90 consecutive days anchored in a remote part of the Bahamas. Her daily routine involves writing in the mornings and handling chores like "scrubbing the galley" and spearfishing in the evenings.
