Dev Intervenes: Actor Anirban Bhattacharya's Work Ban Under Fire
18 Jan
Summary
- Actor Dev publicly appealed to lift Anirban Bhattacharya's six-month work ban.
- High Court ruled against work bans, stating no one can stop an artiste's livelihood.
- Riddhi Sen faces similar issues for expressing opinions online.

Actor and MP Dev made a public plea to lift the unofficial work ban imposed on his co-star Anirban Bhattacharya. Dev urged the Federation of Cine Technicians & Workers of Eastern India and the Bengal Chief Minister to allow Bhattacharya, a talented actor, to continue working, highlighting his six-month exclusion from the industry.
The situation reflects a growing conflict within the Bengali film industry, initiated in 2024 when the Federation banned director Rahool Mukherjee. This led to prominent filmmakers and actors, including Bhattacharya, challenging the Federation's interference in production decisions and crew choices by approaching the Calcutta High Court in early 2025.
In September 2025, the High Court ruled that preventing an artiste from working is illegal, advising legal recourse for further violations. Despite this, Riddhi Sen recently faced shooting delays due to technician unwillingness to work with him, stemming from a social media post. Sen asserted his right to free expression.
