Giant Ducks Take Over Derbyshire for Fun Trail

Eight colossal, uniquely decorated ducks are set to transform Amber Valley in Derbyshire starting February 14th. The "Ay Up Me Duck" trail will feature 1.5-meter-tall fibreglass birds, painted by local artists, appearing in Alfreton, Belper, Heanor, and Ripley. Residents can explore the trail using a map or a dedicated mobile app.

Artists submitted designs, with public voting narrowing them down to the eight chosen creations. One artist, Lisa Bentley, designed a duck inspired by space and astronomer John Flamsteed. The trail is expected to significantly increase footfall in town centres, boost civic pride, and encourage community interaction.

Tilley Bancroft, who created the fibreglass ducks, will apply an anti-graffiti varnish to protect them for the 10-week duration. In addition to the eight main ducks, smaller ones will also be displayed in shop windows, further engaging the local community with art and creativity.
