- The fallout stemmed from a disagreement over casting Bhagat Singh in 2026.
- They are collaborating again for a sequel to the 1997 film Ghatak.

Director Rajkumar Santoshi and actor Sunny Deol have mended their professional relationship after a significant fallout, with plans to collaborate on a sequel to their 1997 action film, "Ghatak." The rift occurred when Deol proposed his brother, Bobby Deol, for the role of Bhagat Singh in a film Santoshi was developing around 2026. Santoshi, while admiring Bobby's acting abilities, ultimately felt Ajay Devgn was a better fit for the character's intense portrayal, akin to Amitabh Bachchan's performance in "Zanjeer." Santoshi stated that he conveyed his reservations directly to Deol, despite their strong professional bond.
Santoshi acknowledged his debt to Sunny Deol, who supported him during the making of "Ghayal," even when Sunny's father, Dharmendra, was uncertain about the film. He expressed that external influences may have exacerbated the misunderstanding. Santoshi remains resolute in his directorial decision regarding the Bhagat Singh casting, emphasizing his commitment to his artistic vision. He also recalled an earlier instance with the film "Lajja," where he had approached Deol for a role eventually played by Devgn, but remuneration issues prevented their collaboration at that time.
