The historical epic, penned by John Logan, will be based at Rome's renowned Cinecittà Studios. Pre-production and location scouting are currently underway across Italy.
The film's narrative focuses on Hannibal, recognized as one of history's greatest military commanders, and his significant campaigns against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War. His legendary invasion of Italy, famously including war elephants, and his subsequent 15-year occupation of southern Italy will be central to the story.
This project marks the sixth collaboration between director Antoine Fuqua and Washington, who previously won an Oscar for their work on "Training Day." They most recently collaborated on "The Equalizer 3," also filmed primarily in Italy. Washington is producing the film with Erik Olsen, Adam Goldworm, and Fuqua.
