Demi Lovato marked National Eating Disorder Awareness Week with a profound personal reflection, describing a "full-circle moment" in her life.
The singer, 33, shared her journey on Thursday, posting photos of herself in her kitchen with her cookbook, "One Plate at a Time." She candidly spoke about past struggles with disordered eating, expressing disbelief that she would one day release a cookbook.
Lovato explained that the cookbook was designed from a place of understanding the intimidation of cooking and the importance of nourishment. She emphasized that healing her relationship with food began with small, daily steps. The book, set for release on March 17, offers 80 recipes and cooking tips for those seeking a gentler approach to food.
Reflecting on her recovery, Lovato offered encouragement to others currently struggling or in active recovery. She reiterated that recovery is an ongoing process, acknowledging her own status as a "work in progress." She also highlighted advocacy efforts by NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) and shared past realizations that recovery is indeed possible and achievable.
In previous statements, Lovato has been open about her battles with addiction and eating disorders, using her platform for mental health advocacy. She recalled a time when she doubted the reality of eating disorder recovery, only to later be told by her dietitian that she was living proof of what recovery looks like. She recently married Jordan "Jutes" Lutes, who is also sober.
