1 Mar
Summary
- Lindo spoke at NAACP Awards after BAFTA Tourette's incident.
- He expressed gratitude for support following the controversy.
- Lindo wished BAFTA had addressed the slur with him.

Delroy Lindo appeared at the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles, marking his first public event since a Tourette's outburst at the BAFTAs resulted in a racial slur being directed at him and Michael B. Jordan. During the BAFTA ceremony, a guest with Tourette's shouted the N-word while Lindo and Jordan were presenting an award.
Lindo addressed the situation at the NAACP celebration, stating, "we appreciate all of the support and love that we have been shown in the aftermath of what happened last weekend." He described it as a "classic case of something that could've been very negative becoming very positive."
He also expressed a desire for BAFTA to have directly addressed the incident with him and Jordan afterward. The controversy had previously been referenced by the NAACP Image Awards host, Deon Cole, during his opening monologue.
Meanwhile, actor Thierry Mabonga, who portrayed John Davidson's lawyer in the film "I Swear" about Davidson's life with Tourette's, defended Davidson, suggesting actors should have been warned about his condition. Tourette's Action, a charity, emphasized that tics are involuntary and not a reflection of a person's beliefs or character, while acknowledging the hurt such words can cause.
