Summary
- Irani avoided Parsi roles due to exaggerated portrayals on screen.
- She found 'Chumbak's' Taraporewala family relatable and natural.
- The Netflix series premiered on September 10, 2026.
Actress Delnaaz Irani has spoken about her decision to portray a Parsi character in the new Netflix series "Chumbak." For years, Irani consciously avoided such roles, finding many on-screen representations of the Parsi community to be overly exaggerated with affected accents and mannerisms.
She was drawn to "Chumbak" because it features the Taraporewala family with a natural and relatable depiction. Irani noted that while she played a Parsi role previously in "Batliwala House No. 43" (2004-2005), "Chumbak" stands out for its authentic portrayal.
The comedy series, which premiered on Netflix on September 10, 2026, presents the Taraporewala family as a genuine representation of Parsis living in their communities, avoiding stereotypical comic characters.
Irani also viewed the role of Gulshan Taraporewala as an opportunity to challenge herself as an actress. Her involvement in "Chumbak" was further motivated by her positive past experiences working with creators JD and Aatish.
