Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has disclosed a startling revelation about his 2009 film, Delhi-6. The original version, which was screened at the Venice Film Festival, commenced with the protagonist's demise. Mehra explained that the film originally opened with Abhishek Bachchan's character being dead, revealed through ashes immersion and a voiceover.
Mehra admitted to altering the film for its Indian release, a change he now views as a mistake stemming from "foolishness." He succumbed to suggestions that the audience might prefer a more hopeful narrative, regretting his decision to change the ending and deviate from his initial artistic vision.
Delhi-6, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor, featured a large ensemble cast. Despite its artistic intentions and Mehra's evolving reflections, the film did not achieve commercial success nor universal critical acclaim upon its theatrical release.
