In a recent interview, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding her demand for an 8-hour work shift. This request reportedly led to her exit from the films Spirit and the Kalki 2898 AD sequel.
Padukone highlighted the double standards faced by women in the Indian film industry when compared to their male counterparts. She noted that many male superstars have been working 8-hour days for years, with some only working Monday to Friday and not on weekends. However, Padukone's similar request was met with criticism, with the actress stating, "By virtue of being a woman, if that's coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it."
The actress further reflected on the need for more structure and organization in the otherwise chaotic film industry. "Even though we call it an industry, we have never really worked like one. It's a very disorganized industry, and I think it's time we brought in some system into this culture," Padukone remarked.
Despite the controversy, Padukone has already resumed work, beginning shoots for upcoming films alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan. She is also slated to feature in Atlee's upcoming film AA22xA6 with Allu Arjun.
