Renny Harlin's survival thriller "Deep Water," produced by Gene Simmons, will premiere on April 10 as the opening night selection of the Sarasota Film Festival. Both Harlin and Simmons are expected to attend the event, which precedes the film's wide release on May 1. The movie stars Aaron Eckhart, Ben Kingsley, and others, and depicts the harrowing ordeal of plane crash survivors in shark-infested waters.
This marks Harlin's second shark-themed film, following his 1999 hit "Deep Blue Sea." The festival will also host a discussion with marine life experts and oceanographers after the screening of "Deep Water." Festival president Mark Famiglio expressed excitement for the opening night, calling the film a "pulse-pounding thriller" and anticipating an unforgettable evening.
The Sarasota Film Festival's programming also includes Julian Schnabel's "In the Hand of Dante" as the closing night film. Additionally, the festival will feature panels on stunt coordination, the role of AI in animation, and sports business, coinciding with Florida's role in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
